Be Kind

When Shawn Petite put her woodland creatures on sale I had to get the only one I did not already own. The fox.

I created a Video for this cute little creature. One of the only ones I probably will get to this week.

I am preparing for an Art Festival this weekend and I want to have as many pieces as possible. Some of my friends asked for a "pre-sale" and although I am grateful for sales, that put me down 5 canvases. Here is the video. If you are looking for product info. I will get to that at some point.

Don't Give Up

Today I am up on Shawn Petite's blog with my mixed media project:
Don't Give Up 3-20-2019

This project was inspired by the woodland creatures stencil rabbits. Spring arrived early in the Southeast Low Country. Daffodils are flowering, azaleas are budding and the trees are waking from their short winter’s rest. Easter is just around the corner too and what better to represent that holiday than bunnies. In this project I used both stencils for a Mama and baby rabbit. Mom gives her offspring good advice about how the fence should not be a barrier for her to get what she wants. Don’t give up, ever.

Enjoy The Video:

River of Dreams

I took a break from florals to do a landscape.

This was for the Wanderlust 2019 Rivers category. Rather than an art journal I put it on a canvas. I love the rock texture. I created that with beads set in textured sand. It might not be grunged up enough. I did create a video for it. Short and Sweet. Took several iterations to get the river to look like it was not a quagmire. Enjoy

Be Resourceful

If you want to get anywhere in life, you must be resourceful. You cannot rely on others to solve your problems or get your answers.

This project was inspired by a whimsy flowers class I started. These are not whimsy poppies, these poppies are realistic. In my next few projects I will be stepping outside my comfort zone to create paintings of non-linear whimsical flowers. Wish me luck. I can do it. I am resourceful.

If you want to fly...

Give up of What Weighs you down. Whatever your worries, let them go.

I struggled with this project. Started with purple and green, ended up with mostly beige. But I am happy with how it turned out. I especially like that I thought to add the text to the nest.

I hope you enjoy the video, I cut out a lot of footage that led it astray.

Mixed Media - I Survived

I could say I survived the winter, but it was not a particularly tough winter to survive and truthfully, I am not ready to say goodbye to the cooler temps. I have seen evidence of spring everywhere. A daffodil in the backyard, the Bradford pear trees starting to show white, the azaleas are budding too.

I have had success with the De-collage technique, it gives great texture to the background and does not really matter what you use. My friend gave me a stack of National Geographic magazines, It is doubtful I will ever get through them so ripping pages seemed like a good idea. The first pass, I mistakenly laid them right side up, so rather than get color, I got print. Oh well. The second layer was more successful. As I colored the entire background in blue, I had zero idea what would happen, but it had to be landscape and so it became one. This was not a representation of anything I know or have seen, just my mind's eye what a spring landscape would resemble.

Of Course there is a video to go with it. I had considered my first "talkie" I bought a new microphone, but I need more practice before I go live.

I wanted to do a project, and this is what became of it.

I wanted to use beach sand and some other products from my stash. I am happy with it. I really had no idea what the title would be, but then I saw it. So ME.

Serendipity

"Serendipity" - the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way such as an unexpected joyful result.

In this neck of the woods spring is right around the corner and in no time the daffodils will be blooming, the Bradford pear trees will take on that awesome aura of white flowers lining the streets, then the azaleas, a heavenly sight to behold and daisies. Such a happy flower.

I got this daisy stencil from Shawn Petite just last week when her latest line of stencils came out for sale. It was the first one I decided to use. I had picked up these bright embossing paste colors on clearance, I figured I would use them for texture more than color, as you see in the video I painted over them and no one was the wiser.

Mixed Media Inspire

So I am taking an "Everything Art - Wanderlust 2019" class all year long.

We are in week 2. It is geared for Art Journaling, but I am not much of an art journaler, maybe I will be by the end of the year. But today I put the project on an MDF board. It is not my typical style, I prefer landscapes and I am not good with white space.

I do love the instructor's style, but it is not mine. Her name is Athanasia Papantoniou, she is from Greece and her YouTube channel is
athanasiapap

Mixed Media Trailblazer

After using an MDF board a canvas feels as light as a feather. I bought all these canvases so thought I would use one. I had a quote and a photo that was my inspiration. I used neither the quote nor the photo and went in my own direction. Trailblazing, shall we say.

I wanted to use some of my other stencils, I do have many. I created this

I am quite pleased with the finished product.

Mixed Media - Observer

"It is the Quiet Observer who sees the most"

I also like "it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid, then open it and remove all doubt" but that is neither here nor there

I found this bird in a National Geographic Magazine.
He was not my inspiration. I just felt like painting and trying new products. The project just evolved. I got the crayons on sale at my LSS (Local Scrapbook Store) and saw they could be melted, so I did it.

The background was so bold I needed something as a focal point that was really "eye catching" No doubt this did the trick. I was please with my mixing ability with paints to match his feather so perfectly.

Break the Rules

Truly I probably would never break the rules, although I may think about it.

New Year, New Me. No, not really, same old me, another year older. Five years into my back 30 already. For anyone who does not know why I entitled my blog TheBack30 is because I created it when I turned 60. Historically women in my bloodline have lived into their 90s, or close to it so at that age I was entering the last 30 years of my life.

I am scheduled for a video for Shawn Petite's blog this month and I had one in the hopper but thought I would try another one. I actually preferred the first one so this one gets posted.

Not my best work, but I tried some new techniques. I had seen a YouTube video where someone used a glue gun to make a gnarly tree. I thought I would try it with gnarly bushes, but not all that impressed with my first attempt. I also used a deco art crackle medium for the second time. I absolutely loved how that turned out. A friend of my gave it to me when she purged her stash, not sure whether they still make it or not.

Yesterday my YouTube channel started blowing up, I did not know why but within a few hours I made my 100 subscriber mark. Don't look a gift horse... I immediately went in changed my YouTube channel name. I am the only Celise McLaughlin on YouTube, so I got that one.

My You Tube Channel

Today my channel continues to grow, luckily someone posted the reason. Shelley Studio, who has 1000s of subscribers featured me on her channel. I am pink with excitement. It is such a huge honor to know that someone liked my mixed media projects enough to help me to grow.. Thank you Shelley, I am so grateful.

The Shelley Studio

Back to break the rules. When I was putting away all my Christmas wrapping paper and bags I found a pine board. I am crazy for wood these days so I used it to make this project. I also am swimming in journal cards and scrapbook paper among so many other scrap-booking supplies. I want to start using them. So I cut up the cards to make a clapboard and used one of Shawn Petite's window stencils to create a window. I should have stopped there. But oh well. Next time. Here is the video:

2018 Christmas Card Album

I have always kept Christmas Cards. I used to put them away with the Christmas tree each year and look at them when I decorated the following year. Then they would go out in the trash, or recycle. 5 years ago I started on my paper crafting sojourn and learned how to create albums with cereal boxes and patterned paper. One particular album I saw on YouTube was a 5 part chunky album that held Christmas Cards. I tried it, and then every year thereafter I would revisit the project and create another one. These now have become a part of my Christmas decorations.

This is the one I made this year. I got so many cards I had to add an extra hinge. I will have to start looking for a cereal box so I can get ready for next year. Here is the video:
